JANAKALYAN SEVASHRAM was promoted as a company
form of organization on 18 -11-1997 by a very few like minded
senior citizens with a view to apply it’s income only for the
construction and maintenance of homes for the aged men and women and
also orphaned children. This was done at the behest and
blessings of HIS HOLINESS The Shankarcharya, with the avowed
object of running homes for the down-trodden, neglected aged parents and
destitute children. The Chairman of the
Janakalyan Sevashram Shri K.R.Raman's ardent desire to help the senior citizens and destitute
children was given a concrete shape by starting an Ashram on a
rented premises at Koparkhairne in 1997 with a lone lady senior citizen.
All her needs were looked after as a member of the family. Within 6 months, by oral publicity, about 6 to 7
members approached Mr. Raman, to accommodate them in the Ashram. With
the help of Shri Hariharan of Indian express, all formalities to promote
a company under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956, were fulfilled
and Jankalyan Sevashram was born on 18th Nov 1997. The ashram shortly after this event in Nov1997 had to be moved to New Panvel, where 5 flats were taken on rent to accommodate 20 senior citizens and 12 children. With the continuous growth and number of admissions, the ashram was shifted to 10 rented flats at Kolkhe Village, Panvel, in the year 2000. With the donations received from
philanthropic minded people and with the blessings of His Holiness, the
Sevashram acquired a piece of land admeasuring 10,000 sq. ft. at the
Village Parbund, about 2.5 Kms away from Panvel Bus Stand on the old
Mumbai-Pune Road. The foundation stone was laid by His Holiness The
Shankaracharya on 20th
June 2001. It’s only with His Grace and the
blessings of His Holiness and the munificent donations by the kind,
liberal minded people and self less dedicated service put in by
voluntary sevaks led by Shri. K. R. Raman, this project's total cost of
over Rs. 1 Crore This building has 3 floors with 30
rooms in all, 10 rooms on each floor. Each room has an There are presently 80 senior
members of whom 45 are women and 35 are gents as also about 90 school
going children. All the need of the ashramites are met, including medicines
and hospitalization. Apart from accommodation, we give sumptuous, food
and also new clothes 4 times a year. The children are well taken care of
and enrolled in the Schools in the locality. Their school fees,
uniforms, shoes and the transport charges are borne by the Ashram. Apart
from accepting the voluntary donations offered by the ashramites, no fees
as such are charged on the children for their living and education at
any point of time. Within the same building there are
rooms specially planned for children with 2 attached bathrooms. The
ground floor of the building has a provision for a large kitchen and
dining hall. At the center of the hall on the ground floor a beautiful
temple dedicated to Maha It is our earnest desire to have another building for 100 children. We need donors and patrons for this building. Donations in cash of one Lac and above will have the donors name engraved in a marble plaque at the entrance of this building. On the occasion of Mahakumbha-Abhishekam

Patashala Apart from the Panvel complex for senior citizens and destitute children, the ashram is running 12 senior citizen homes at: Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Kashi, Kolkatta, Madurai, Mysore, Palakkad, Secunderabad, Tirunelveli, Vadodara & recently Tsunami Relief branch at Nagapattinam.
