Non-Performing
Advances THE book deals with the
problem of Non-Performing Advances (NPAs) in public sector banks and its
impact on the banks’ books, banking and financial system of the economy.
Recognising the inevitable and festering nature of
the problem, the author has come out, inter alia, with a statistical
model as an innovative, simple and practical solution to contain NPA
formation to ensure a strong balance sheet for banks and improved image of
the borrowers. The author
claims that the solution will prove to be a win-win situation for all
stakeholders of banks including the economy, and its constituents
Government, share holders, depositors, borrowers, employees and others.

About the Author Dr. T.V. Gopalakrishnan a postgraduate in Commerce and an Associate of The Indian Institute of Banking and Finance is presently working as General Manager in The Reserve Bank of India. His wide exposure in The Reserve Bank for more than three decades in the areas of Credit Planning, Credit Authorisation, Credit Monitoring, Rural Credit, Rehabilitation of Sick Units and his close association with the implementation of the recommendations of Tandon, Chore, Marathe Committees on Working Capital and regulatory and supervisory functions enabled him to have a very deep insight into the problems of management of credit. His deputation to Canara Bank for two years, visits abroad to familiarize himself with the risk management concepts, tenure as Lecturer in Commerce in SRKV College, Coimbatore, long stint as a Faculty Member in Reserve Bank Staff College, training exposure to credit and risk management gave him the opportunity to know more about finance in general and bank credit in particular. He regularly contributes articles and letters on finance and banking. He has a research-oriented mind and a natural liking for credit management in banks that prompted him to bring out a thesis on Management of Non-Performing advances which is a burning issue faced by the banking system. He secured his Doctorate from the University of Madras and the thesis has won appreciation for its lucid style of writing, contents and coverage of the topic. |
